HOLIDAYS
Frost on the pumpkin (metaphorically speaking) marks the beginning of the holiday season. What joy the holidays bring! There’s hayrides and carving of the pumpkin and parties. There is the anticipation of the Thanksgiving Dinner with all of its trimmings. Then, there is the preparation of Christmas. That means more parties, gifts to buy, trees to trim, programs to prepare, and more family gatherings. Joy, cheer and love are everywhere! Or are they?

Last year NBC Dateline and Prevention Magazine quoted, that 41% of the American people experience overwhelming stress, sadness, or depression during the holidays. If you are one of these people, may I offer some suggestions?

  • Remember that God is your best friend. Like any best friend he is there for you 24/7. Lean on Him. Use His strength to get through the holidays.
  • Get rid of the “shoulds” of the season and ask yourself, what would make this holiday time special for me? Listen for the answer.
  • Know that it is “ok” to feel sadness and loneliness during the holiday season.
  • Spend time with supportive and caring people.
  • Practice maximum self-care.
  • Do something for someone else.
  • Celebrate the holidays in a new way.
  • Remember…Reflect…Share…Heal
  • Don’t hesitate to ask for help.

May God’s peace, love and grace be with you during this holiday season.

Fondly,
